Univille

This is a monumental stage in my life. I’m building a house! Or at least I will be as soon as everyone else gets on board.

I started this process in December of 2022 when I put in an offer on 1.5 acres of Tennessee dirt. To say it’s been a difficult process since then is an understatement. The land contained an unlivable single-wide trailer that needed to be torn down. But since it had a residence on it, it also allegidly contained a septic system. It also had well water and electical hook ups, but the septic was a big unkown. I wanted to do my due dilegance and get everthing checked out before finalizing the sale. Everything seemed to check out, but when it came time to do the land survey, I was told by the surveryor that it was never properly subdvided and it was not approved for new construction. The surveryor knew this because they surveyed the land in 2022, nearly 12 months before I came along. The land was being sold under false pretenses.

After trying to back out, I was forced to purchase or lose my earnest deposit. Not willing to give up my money and still wanting the land, I was forced to purchase it. As of June 2023, I’m still waiting for the zone variance so that I can get a building permit. That being said, I’ve still made a lot of progress cleaning up the land. The single-wide was torn down and a new driveway was cut in. I’ve been trimming trees, cutting grass, and shoveling dirt and rocks on occassion to get things ready for new construction. Hopefully this will be an ongoing series of updates and upgrades to this little piece of dirt.

And the name Univille? It’s the name of a real town in North Dakota and is the fictional location of Warehouse 13; a sci-fi series that I love.
